Meatball Marinara Sandwich

I’ve never ordered this before, but Tyler is a big fan

How a classic meatball sandwich earned a spot on the Tavva menu

A note from Val: Tyler’s idea was a good one

I’ve never been someone who orders a meatball sub when I go to a restaurant. If given the choice between a meatball sandwich and a plate of pasta with meatballs, I’m choosing the pasta every time.

But Tyler loves a really good meatball sub and brought up the idea for the menu. While it might not be my go-to order, I know so many people love meatball subs, and I was excited to create a recipe for it.

The meatball sub is one of those classic Italian-American sandwiches that’s been around for generations. It became popular in cities like New York and Philadelphia, where Italian immigrants adapted traditional meatball recipes into something portable, hearty, and easy to eat on the go.

Today, it’s a staple in delis, pizzerias, and sandwich shops across the country.

So if we were going to put one on the Tavva menu, I wanted to do it right, and I wanted to make it amazing.

I started with our homemade focaccia, toasted warm and spread with our roasted garlic spread. Then came our scratch-made meatballs, house marinara, fresh mozzarella, freshly grated parmesan, and basil.

But there was one ingredient Tyler was especially passionate about adding.

Pepperoni.

I loved the idea. The pepperoni adds another layer of savory flavor that works really well with the meatballs, marinara, and melted mozzarella. It helps give the sandwich its own identity and makes it feel different from our Meatball Marinara Pasta.

The result is a warm, hearty sandwich that’s packed with classic Italian-American flavor while still feeling uniquely Tavva.

I have to admit, Tyler was right on this one.

It’s so good, and I can’t wait for you to try it!
